Hall-thruster tests in ASRI's Electric Propulsion lab

28 Nov 2017

Rafael is currently performing several Hall thruster performance tests at ASRI, in the Electric Propulsion lab. The tested subject is the Qualification Model (QM) of the thrusters currently in operation onboard the Venus satellite. Since the Hall thruster tested at the ASRI is identical to the thrusters operating in space, yet with much longer operation record of thousands of hours, it is used to project on thruster behavior further along, and near the end of, the mission lifetime. The purpose of the tests is to assess thruster performance during future segments of the Venus mission and after the mission officially ends.
Additionally, some novel operation schemes are tested to demonstrate thruster system flexibility.
